FLYING
This was the original way to earn points and the reason that frequent flyer programmes were initially set up.
Earning points from flying is only one way available to earn points.
The airlines offer many ways to earn points via:
- Shopping
- Credit cards
- Telecommunications
- Restaurants
- Rental cars
- Hotels
When do I get my points?
If an airline ticket is purchased, the points will not accrue until the flight is taken. If just by booking a ticket meant that a person earned points then that is what some people would do. The points are not earned until a passenger in on-board the aircraft, the door close and the flight commences.
Airlines can make mistakes when crediting points from flights. If a mistake has been made, contact the airline for them to rectify the error. Be aware that documentation such as a boarding pass may be required to support your claim of missing points.
How many points will I earn?
Passengers earn points and status credits by purchasing eligible airfare tickets and flying on participating airlines.
When earning points from flying the earn rate is different with every airline. There are airlines that guarantee a minimum earn of points when a flight is taken. However there are airlines that offer ticket types that do not earn any points if purchased. When purchasing airline tickets as a frequent flyer it can be helpful to understand just how many points each ticket will accrue to help you achieve your set reward.
